How to share your digital invitation

Publishing sends nothing — you do the sharing, and how you share decides two things: whether your message gets read, and whether each guest's RSVP lands on the right row. The choice comes down to one fork: the public link, or the personal one.

Prerequisites

  • The invitation published
  • The link address claimed
  1. Grab your invitation address

Once live, the editor's status bar shows the invitation's address: datella.app/event/your-address — or your own subdomain if claimed. That is the public link: one address for everyone, right for family groups, social bios, and announcements.

  2. Know the personal link

A personal link ends in ?t=code — one per guest, minted from the send sheet on the RSVP list. Answers submitted from it attach to that guest's row automatically, and a guest resubmitting from the same link updates their own answer rather than creating a new row. The public link can't do that: its answers arrive anonymous.

  3. Share per guest for those who count

For guests whose answers you actually track — close family, dear friends — send the personal link over WhatsApp with their name in the greeting. The WhatsApp tutorial covers the flow including message editing. The same send sheet offers "Copy link" for other channels; in the Android app there is also "Share with QR", attaching the guest's link QR as an image.

  4. The public link for wide announcements

Big family groups, statuses, or printed QR invitations use the public link. Carry the context in your message — your names, the date, and "please fill in your attendance" — because the public link identifies no one. Answers still arrive and still count; they just need manual matching when the name is unclear.

  5. Preview first, share after

Before sending to anyone, open "Preview as guest" and read as a guest: names right, dates right, RSVP button findable. The preview marker you see never reaches a real guest. A mistake caught before sharing costs five seconds; after sharing, it costs a follow-up to every group.

Common questions

A guest forwards their personal link. What happens?

Whoever receives it opens the same invitation and can change the owner's RSVP. For enthusiastic forwarders, send the public link only — safe to forward anywhere.

Can I share with only specific guests?

Yes, through private mode: the invitation opens only with each guest's personal link. The publishing tutorial covers the setting; private plus a public link don't coexist — private means no public link.

Do guests need the Datella app?

No. The invitation opens in any browser; guests just tap the link. The Android app is for whoever plans the event.

How do I put the invitation on a printed card?

Print a QR of the public link — the QR card in the editor provides the canvas. Guests scan and land straight on the invitation; the QR card tutorial covers print sizes.
